UPGRADE V11

Who uses it and why

Cogent Datahub is the new technology for AI and secure industrial automation that allows the creation of local and geographic networks with secure and fast communications, enabling the connection of sensors, devices and machinery present in the territory to create architectures and solutions for Industry 4.0.

Thanks to the special DHTP protocol, specially developed by SKKYNET, it is possible to realize real-time communications with very low latency (more than 50.000+ variations per second can be managed) even in cloud configurations.

The DHCP protocol also allows you not to change the configuration of the currently installed Firewalls and avoid using VPN (Virtual Private Network) greatly simplifying the installation of the system.

The technology data hub interfaces natively with the main industrial market standards by creating bidirectional real-time connections a OPC UA e DA, client and server, Modbus, etc…and likewise allows connection with any SQL database, Excel spreadsheet, application program, Azure IoT Hub, Google IoT, Amazon IoT or any standard MQTT client or broker as well as embedded systems.

Over 29.000 deployments in 86+ countries: energy, discrete manufacturing, water/wastewater, building automation, oil and gas, minerals and mining
used by top 10 automation vendors worldwide

Secure Middleware Plant to Cloud

SAFETY – Current industrial protocols require that remote devices and plant networks allow incoming connection requests

PERFORMANCE – Current high-security solutions cannot offer real-time bi-directional scalability or performance

APPROACH – Until now, no solution has seamlessly and flexibly integrated industrial IoTand systems while preserving the in-plant experience

  • Inform each client if an MQTT client connection fails
  • Configure multiple JSON formats and Sparkplug B to simplify integration with field devices.
On-premise or in the cloud – you choose

For customers requiring an on-premise solution, DataHub MQTT Smart Broker makes it easy to ingest data from the control network and integrate with any MQTT client, acting as an internal smart broker.

In the cloud, DataHub is available on Azure Marketplace. Connect remote facilities using DataHub or MQTT tunneling, share your data with Historian, OSIsoft PI or any SCADA using MQTT or OPC UA.

Tunneling provides an easy-to-configure, secure, and robust network for data protocols that are difficult to bridge or rely on insecure architectures. Tunneling with DataHub goes beyond the basics, allowing you to integrate data without exposing networks.

DataHub DA Tunneller: OPC DA over the network without DCOM and without exposing the network. Collect OPC data from multiple remote locations or connect OPC DA servers and clients across different networks. Eliminate DCOM issues, quickly detect network outages and recover seamlessly.

DataHub UA Tunneler: Access remote data using OPC UA, without exposing plant floor systems. Connect OT to IT with proxy and HTTP CONNECT support, without having to change IT security policies to accommodate OT requirements.

A&E Tunnels: Transform any DataHub Tunneller license into an OPC A&E Tunneller by simply adding the OPC A&E feature. Tunnel OPC A&E Classic through proxy servers and DMZs, eliminating IT challenges. Bring all your A&E data together in one A&E client. Conversion of OPC A&E to OPC DA or UA.

DataHub Modbus Tunneler: Connect to any number of Modbus TCP slave devices and easily share data with other DataHubs over a network or Internet connection. Share data between Modbus devices at one location and OPC/DDE or ODBC clients (databases) at other locations, without having to manage DCOM or Windows security permissions.

DataHub DDE Tunneler: Connect any DDE-enabled program, such as Excel, and easily exchange data with other DataHubs over a network or Internet connection. Share data from Excel spreadsheets in real time.

Cogent DataHub products provide select sets of DataHub functions that enable users to perform data connection and integration operations.

Why use DataHub within the enterprise perimeter?

The DataHub software is designed to transmit your real-time data (low latency), securely, over local or geographic networks. The good practice of network segmentation and conduit creation according to the IEC 62443 standard brings greater complexity in the configuration of devices and firewalls.

Datahub allows communication between the various corporate network levels, managed by firewalls, with bidirectional connections but without opening the entrance doors, allowing the transfer of large amounts of data in real-time mode.

DataHub integrates with the SQL Databases of the MES level
Below is an example of integration between the process level and the MES level where DataHub integrates with relational databases using the logger, i.e. the ODBC interface.

Tunneling communication between plant areas
Through DataHub Gateway it is possible to create encrypted connections, in tunneling, on a local network, using OPC DA/UA or the Modbus protocol for interfacing with the devices.

In particular DataHub DA is designed to completely replace DCOM in TCP communications.

Furthermore, to reduce the network load and to avoid blockages in communication, DataHub uses a Local approach for transactions (Local OPC transactions).

This mechanism maintains a copy of the data in the local caches (client side and server side) performing a constant synchronization with the result that the data traveling through the network is the least amount possible and the OPC Server and the OPC Client are protected by possible network irregularities.

How to make a secure connection between two sites using the public network

To create a secure communication between two sites, it is possible to use an architecture based on Skkyhub, the powerful secure gateway in the cloud by Skkynet which allows real-time data streaming (in tunnel/mirror mode) while keeping the outgoing ports of the firewalls closed. both sites.

The connection to DataHub Service is made via Cogent DataHub via an outgoing-only (bidirectional) tunnel / mirror connection.

The DataHub "tunnel" functionality allows you to send and receive encrypted data over your private network or the Internet via the DHTP protocol.

This configuration allows you to not open any firewall ports on the local DataHub, while still establishing a secure outbound connection. The "mirror" function allows the transmission of data and all updates on the destination DataHub through the "triangulation" performed by SkkyHub.

The DataHub is a "slave" tunnel.
Each DataHub that needs to connect to DataHub Service must be configured as a tunneling slave.
Make sure that no firewall ports are ever open on your local system, as DataHub always makes only secure outgoing connections.

DataHub is an "authoritative" source.
At the same time, in a typical scenario of sending data to the Cloud to DataHub Service, DataHub is considered to be the most authoritative (read best) source of the dataset.
In case of network disconnection, it is considered to update DataHub Service with the latest data from the DataHub running on the local system and not vice versa.

The data flow can be bidirectional.
It is important to note that the “slave” and “authoritative” features of the connection only apply to startup and reconnection.
Once the connection is established, the connection is replicated between DataHub and DataHub Service.
The data flow can be configured to be bidirectional or unidirectional, depending on your needs.

How to Use DataHub to Create Cloud Solutions Using Plant Data

The increasing need for Cloud solutions for IOT applications and in general the growing need for interfacing the plant with Enterprise-level Production Analysis systems makes new safe and easy-to-use technologies indispensable for the integration of these strategic projects for the agency.

DataHub through MQTT allows you to connect virtually any cloud platform or service that uses this standard and in particular DataHub IoT Gateway.

MQTT Brokers
It is also possible to transform DataHub Gateway into an MQTT Broker to interface each MQTT Client device by exploiting DataHub's powerful OPC (DA/UA) connectivity features.

Learn to connect protocols, use DataHub software, and see how it is applied across industries. With videos, white papers, and documentation, the Learning Hub provides DataHub thought leadership, resources, and technical content.
