GE Historian, one of the most widespread and renowned software for storing and analyzing historical production data, distributed and supported in Italy by ServiTecno, is now also available in as-a-service o pay per use, which provides for the subscription of an annual subscription, instead of the acquisition of the permanent license, and a fee that depends on the number of data actually viewed.

How it works

The access fee consists of a fixed fee and a variable fee based on the number of tags actually viewed.

The annual license provides the ability to memorize 500.000 tags and 105 Client accesses.

The fee is therefore not a function of the memorized "tags", i.e. of the variables that will be managed by the system, but of the effective display of the data.

The variable component of the fee, in fact, will be invoiced "in the final balance", at the end of the year.

The fee also includes access to the Acceleration Program, which provides for the possibility of updating the software to new releases and access to the GE Digital technical service.

The advantages

Choosing this new way of using the software allows you to significantly reduce the impact of the initial outlay required, to shift the cost from capital expenditure (CapEx) to operating expenses (OpEx), to benefit from updates to new software versions and access unlimited technical support for the duration of the license.

A flexible choice

For this reason, choosing the new model allows customers to work with extreme flexibility, for example it will be possible to choose to start with the storage of all potentially interesting tags to later decide which of these it may make sense to continue monitoring.

In addition, the user will still have, at any time, the possibility of changing from an annual license to a permanent license by paying the difference in price.

In this case, the annual fee paid but not yet used will be discounted from the cost of the license.

The potential of Historian

Historian collects, stores and normalizes historical series of data relating to industrial processes collected by sensors. This information enables real-time analysis of asset performance issues, enabling manufacturers to improve operational efficiency and maintenance.

In fact, with Historian it is possible to compare data and past production cycles, analyze data prior to a downtime event and trace an ideal production cycle compared to the active cycle.

Reports can be easily generated and information shared across the enterprise using standard web tools. During 2019 GE Digital also developed a lightweight version of Historian capable of running in the Linux environment.

Historian for Linux aims to revolutionize data collection and archiving at the edge, positioning itself as a solution for distributed data collection in support of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
