The digital transformation is the result of a technological evolution which in recent years has had a really important acceleration.
Today it is difficult to bet on what the technologies of tomorrow will be: we are talking about Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, collaborative robots, Virtual and Augmented Reality…some of these topics are already the subject of projects for early adopters, but it is legitimate to think that in next five years (or decade) will be indispensable technologies such as the smartphone is today.
Which of these should you focus on? On NONE!
Or rather, ALL of them: but before doing so, there are some precautions necessary to make your Digital Transformation safe and efficient. Here are two "tips" to build a solid foundation for your future projects.
ANOMALY DETECTION: make your architecture safe. Antiviruses, firewalls and switches will never disappear from your system architectures but, as we often hear, "the attack is always one step ahead of the defence".
The New Threat is always around the corner but there are tricks that can help detect it in time: anomaly detection is a passive approach to Cyber Security but no less effective for this, on the contrary. Network processes and behaviors are normally known and standardized (and if they are not known, it is possible to monitor them to create white lists, define users' rights and duties, authorize or not certain behaviors and traffic volumes...), therefore it is easier to detect an anomaly in behavior than to focus only on creating impassable barriers (which could collapse sooner or later anyway).
EDGE TECHNOLOGY: make your architecture connected.
It is established that in terms of performance, physical systems (physical servers) cannot compete with unlimited CLOUD capabilities, especially as regards the management of BIG (and RAW) Data, Analytics and Machine Learning. The data produced in the field (in the factory or on the territory). It is equally evident that mere supervision (at least for a few more years) will remain bound to the field to avoid problems related to the network connection with consequent loss of communication, data or commands. The shortest and safest way is therefore to create a bridge through EDGE technologies: in this way it is possible to combine the security of an industrial PC in the field with the calculation potential of the CLOUD.
