Stratus Technologies announced the second generation of its platform ztC Edge, the first Edge Computing platform to combine integrated application virtualization with fault tolerance (High Availability or FT) and industrial rugged hardware. The new ztC Edge offers up to 200% more performance than the previous generation. The platform of Edge Computing it is ideal for running critical applications and building Smart Machines in Pharma, Chemical, Oil & Gas, Food & Beverage, and other industries where data loss and unplanned downtime are unacceptable.

In addition, the company announced new releases of its virtualization, remote systems management and fault tolerance software – Stratus Redundant Linux, ztC Advisor and everRun, respectively to promote the efficiency and continuous availability of Stratus computing platforms.

More performance and flexibility with ztC Edge 200i and 250i

The ztC Edge platform is a robust, secure, and highly automated edge computing platform that secures and runs critical applications quickly, reliably, and efficiently in resource-constrained, distributed locations, supporting increased operational efficiency and the elimination of downtime unplanned.

Purpose-built for Operational Technology (OT) while meeting standard IT performance and security requirements, ztC Edge can be quickly deployed in a single location or across multiple locations without the need for specialized IT skills.

Jason Andersen, Vice President of Business Line Management, said, “Since its introduction, our ztC Edge platform has enabled customers to dramatically simplify their edge infrastructure, gain efficiencies and drive innovation. Our second generation platform adds improvements implemented thanks to customer and partner feedback and offers greater performance by incorporating the latest technologies available in terms of speed and reliability”.

  • More CPU power – up to 10 Intel Xeon cores to process larger workloads, more thin clients and more demanding applications
  • Incorporation of ECC memory – ECC memory support optimized for critical applications and data
  • Upgrade to NVMe storage – support for faster and more advanced NVMe storage, up to 2TB, allowing local or on-machine historians
  • More flexible implementation – ability to deploy ztC Edge and easily couple additional ztC Edge platforms later to add capacity and high availability or fault tolerance, providing more supply chain flexibility for both VARs and end users

These enhancements add to the existing features of ztC Edge, a unique platform for the industrial edge, including:

  • UL Class I Div 2 listed and IP40 rated for operation in harsh environments
  • Embedded virtualization supporting Linux or Windows guest operating systems
  • High availability mode or fault tolerance when paired
  • Design based on ISA/IEC 62443 safety standards
  • Simple plug-n-play deployment and self-monitoring maintenance

Through Stratus strategic alliance partners, the ztC Edge 250i is tested to run four virtual machines (VMs), up to 20 thin clients, and control architectures up to 10.000 I/O. For more details on the ztC Edge 200i and 250i, please visit Stratus ztC Edge page .

Both the ztC Edge 200i and 250i will be available in the fourth quarter of 2021, and are available for pre-order immediately.

The latest versions of the software offer better distribution, remote system management and security

Stratus software provides the system intelligence and management layers that enable comprehensive edge solutions that combine application virtualization, fault tolerance mode, and remote operation. Stratus software product updates include:

  • Stratus Redundant Linux (SRL) 2.3 – The latest version of Stratus' Embedded Virtualization OS features the latest CVE fixes and a new setup wizard to make it easier to pair ztC Edge drives to enable high availability or fault tolerance. SRL 2.3 is available for download for the ztC Edge 100i and 110i platforms and will ship with the new ztC Edge 100i, 110i, 200i and 250i platforms.
  • zTC Advisor 1.1 – ztC Advisor provides business, operations and IT leaders with a centralized systems management solution that offers immediate monitoring of the status, software information and status of the entire ztC Edge inventory. The latest software adds a “partner mode” for SI and VAR to manage ztC Edge platforms for customers when enabled by end users.
  • everRun 7.9 – Stratus Fault Tolerant Software, which enables teams to deploy fault tolerant mode and to third party servers, adds support for Intel Ice Lake processors and Linux Debian OS and includes a range of software updates and CVE remediations.

Updated versions of Stratus software are scheduled for release by the end of Q2021 XNUMX. The software will be available to existing customers with support contracts at no additional cost.
