Ge Digital presents the new Proficy Historian 8.0, a solution for the collection and historicization of data which is proposed as the basis for the management of industrial information.
Proficy Historian is the software solution for the historicization of industrial data, developed by Ge Digital and distributed and supported in Italy by ServiTecno, which collects industrial time series and data on very high speed, stores them in a way efficient e sure, distributes them, and enables their rapid retrieval and analysis, helping to increase business value.
The latest version of the software, Proficy Historian 8.0, offers significant improvements that allow you to increase the security, ease of use and performance of the system, but above all it makes it faster and easier connection to IIoT devices, fundamental in the era of Industry 4.0.
Democratized data access
In supervisory and control systems (HMI/SCADA) industrial data are typically associated with variables (tags). Those who work there on a daily basis have no problem identifying which data a given variable corresponds to; for everyone else, however, it is not so intuitive. This is why it is important to create one mapping that allows you to view information in the right context, associating variables and tags with a visual and conceptual representation of the machine, the line, the plant or even the entire company. This way any user who wants to know the value of a specific sensor (such as the rpm of a pump) can find the specific pump in the map and see the data values associated with the pump.
Then you need a tool that allows you to quickly and easily create applications that show operators the right mix of information from various corporate systems on the device of their choice.
Proficy Historian 8.0 addresses all these needs. It offers the possibility to develop applications without writing code, supports operators who work on the move, thanks to interfaces responsive that adapt to any type of device used to view them. Historian also allows you to contextualize the data on a map created on the basis of the asset model, offers security functions that allow you to control the visibility of the data and the functionality of the application (for example, read only or read and write depending on of the role) and an unlimited number of developer and runtime licenses.
With Proficy Historian 8.0 anyone can make pictures mini-appi.e. web-based applications that show plant data exactly the way you want to see it. It is a real "democratization" operation compared to the current paradigm, in which the design of systems is managed by a few experts. The features of Proficy Historian 8.0
Proficy Historian 8.0 makes it faster and easier connection to IIoT devices, thanks to the availability of numerous manifolds which allow the system to be connected to the machine data. New in version 8.0 is a collector MQTT able to send data to Proficy Historian server or Predix Time Series.
If there are specific needs, it is possible to develop a dedicated collector for your data using the SDK made available by GE Digital.
Proficy Historian 8.0 then offers users the ability to analyze the data in context via Proficy Operations Hub and the Historian Analysis run-time application, which are licensed with Proficy Historian 8.0 Standard and Enterprise. The combination of Proficy Historian and Proficy Operations Hub provides a solution that gives users the ability to view aggregated data from in real time from devices or from historical series, define an asset model, including tag mapping, do advanced trend analysis.
Also, version 8.0 includes a Excel Add-In for Proficy Operations Hub, which allows users to query historical data based on the asset model.

Thanks to'simplified installation and easy-to-use web clients with integrated tag search and drag-and-drop capability can help companies accelerate time to value. Proficy Historian 8.0 supports high availability with redundancy of data and take advantage of the continuous and highly scalable data read and write functionality.
Thanks to the tight integration with iFIX and CIMPLICITY, the two HMI/SCADA solutions from Ge Digital, it is possible to publish data with a simple click. Proficy Historian logs and stores data from HMI/SCADA systems and allows for viewing in iFIX and CIMPLICITY.
From a technical point of view Proficy Historian 8.0 takes advantage of the innovative ones compression algorithms and is therefore particularly efficient and fast.
Particular attention has been paid to data security: Proficy Historian uses OAuth2 web tokens to authorize and authenticate Windows domain users and groups.
Even for Linux
Proficy Historian is also available in a Linux version. This is an extremely useful variant because it can be installed on systems Edge Computing, thus offering the possibility to collect and store data on the device.
Unlike systems based on "polling" (that is, they offer data on request), Historian for Linux works with the "pushing" technique, that is, it "pushes" the data automatically. Being extremely lightweight, the software can be installed on many IIoT devices e controller who thus send the machine data to the plant historians, who in turn send the data to the cloud for process analysis and optimization.
