DataHub use case

The management of a recently opened mine in South America has started a project to collect data from their mineral processing plant and store it in an SQL database. The project had three objectives:

  1. Keep backup files,
  2. Provide office personnel with access to plant data without the risk of interfering with production,
  3. Interface with corporate ERP systems.

They were faced with two challenges: how to move data securely over a one-way connection from their plant control network to the corporate network, and then how to log the data into their database.

They chose the Cogent DataHub because it could meet both of these requirements. After connecting a DataHub to their plant DCS, they were able to set up a one-way tunnel between that DataHub and a second DataHub running on the corporate network. From the second DataHub they set up an ODBC connection to their database, and were thus able to log the data. The system was up and running quickly, and management and accounting staff were pleased to have instant access to the most critical data coming out of their control system, without the risk of writing any value to the control system.
