From this point of view, collecting industrial data is not enough to optimize production, maximize asset utilization and decrease costs, breakdowns and waste: it is also necessary to know how to 'measure', or rather express the relationship between the information collected and the production context. Therefore, it is necessary enabling technologies that can relate inhomogeneous data or data from different sources returning useful information for continuous improvement. The convergence of IT and OT it is increasingly on the table of the CIOs of all industrial and utility companies. The CISOs find themselves evaluating whether the methods and technologies adopted to protect the IT infrastructure from cyber risk can be used and extended to the OT perimeter as well. Industry 4.0 and the consequent Cyber Security 4.0 become, today, urgent in order to address, in addition to the themes Safety and protection of intellectual property, the need to ensure operational and production continuity. All with reference to the new EU Directive NIS2, which we will soon have to apply also in Italy.
