CYBER SECURITY has always been one of the topics we deal with with the greatest interest: we know how important it is to avoid attacks that lead to blockages or malfunctions on a process application.

When it comes to IT Security it is important to know that whoever carries out an attack is always a little ahead of whoever has to defend himself, and therefore it is good to look for solutions without looking at the past, but monitoring who is always a release ahead: this is why ServiTecno provocatively speaks of Industry 4.1, because 4.0 is already attackable (indeed, it has already been attacked)

We know well what are the differences between Security in the IT and OT environment and in the month of CYBER SECURITY we always try to give our contribution and pass on our experience: just yesterday we were present at "Cyber Security Energia", a conference which brought together some leading OT (and IT) security experts.

Here is our contribution, the complete presentation by Enzo Maria Tieghi

INDUSTRIAL CYBER SECURITY AND INDUSTRIE4.0: OT FROM THE WIRED FACTORY TO CLOUD SYSTEMS

If it is connected, it must be protected.

The traditional industry, as we know it, has become the digital industry.

More devices are connected to plants and networks than ever before – PLCs, RTUs, HMIs/SCADAs and a wide range of embedded devices all underpin critical plants and infrastructure.

All these connected devices lead to new levels of productivity, efficiency and value.

But, all these connections also carry and elevate cyber risk.

In fact, with all these connected Operation Technology (OT) environments, any trace of the "air gap" (which was the traditional method for securing industrial networks) has now "faded". Industrial Control Systems (ICS, Industrial Control Systems), and here we also include SCADA and DCS, have become easy targets for attackers and other adversaries, but have also always been subject to "internal risk" (operator errors, malfunctions, malware and including sabotage): The threat landscape is constantly changing and expanding.

This has brought us to a new reality: if it's connected, it needs to be protected.
